MLAX: SUNY Poly Handed Their First NEAC Loss by Cazenovia 11-8.

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats traveled to Cazenovia on Wednesday in search of their second NEAC win of the season. The Wildcats came up short in their quest for number two, but played the Cazenovia Wildcats close. The final score of the game was 11-8 in favor of Cazenovia.

SUNY Poly and Cazenovia played each other tight through the first three quarters of play. Heading into the final 15 minutes, the Cazenovia Wildcats held just a one goal lead over the SUNY Poly Wildcats. The Cazenovia Wildcats would close out the game thanks to two quick goals in the fourth by Joe Timm and two goals to close out the quarter from Brandon Maxon and Ben Wilson. 

The SUNY Poly Wildcats were led by Tyler Heldt (Cicero, N.Y.) who took 15 of the Wildcats 38 shots. He netted two goals in the game. Daniel Rivie (Ossining, N.Y.) had a goal and three assists in the game. He also caused a turnover and and scooped up two ground balls. Seniors Nicholas Levanti (Clayville, N.Y.) and Neil Nembhard (Commack, N.Y.) each had two points in the game. Nembhard scored two goals on four shots and Levanti had a goal on four shots and an assist. Levanti also had a caused turnover and three groundballs.

On the defensive side, seven Wildcats had a caused turnover in the game. Andrew Wurz (Utica, N.Y.) had a team high six groundballs. Zach Evans (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had four groundballs. R.J. Ferrucci (Rome, N.Y.) made nine saves in the game, but allowed 11 goals on 20 shots on goal.

Nikolas Stojkovski (Cicero, N.Y.) had a solid performance in the face-off circle. He took 16 face-offs for the Wildcats, winning nine of them for a win percentage of 56%.

 

The Wildcats fall to 3-7 on the season and are now 1-1 in NEAC Play. The team will be back in action on Saturday when they take on NEAC foe Hilbert College. The game will take place at D'Youville College at 2:00 PM.
