MLAX: Wildcat Offense Comes to Life in a 13-8 Win Over SUNY Delhi.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team earned their second win of the season on Saturday when they hosted SUNY Delhi in a non-conference game at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field. The Wildcats ended up winning 13-8 thanks to good offensive discipline and control, matched on the opposite side of the ball with some hard nose defense and solid goalkeeping.

The Wildcat offense got off to a quick start in the first quarter by scoring the first two goals of the game in the first three minutes to go up 2-0. Delhi would battle back and bring the game to a 3-3 tie in the first, but the SUNY Poly offense picked up steam and put a four goal gap between themselves and the Broncos heading into the locker room at halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Broncos came bucking out of the gate and scored the first goal of the second half to cut the lead to three, but the Wildcats answered back just two minutes later with a goal of their own and two at the end of the third quarter to enter the final 15 minutes of play with a five goal cushion. The Wildcats held the line and secured the win in the final quarter to close out the game with their second win of the young season heading into NEAC Play.

Nicholas DeCrisci (Utica, N.Y.) had a highlight reel, behind the back goal across the middle of the crease. The goal came off a dime of an assist by Nicholas Levanti (Clayville, N.Y.) after causing a defensive breakdown that gave him a small window for the pass. The Goal opened up the flood gates for DeCrisci who tacked on another two goals for a total of three in the game.

Nick Levanti had a great day facilitating the offense of the Wildcats. He had a goal and four assists for five points. On defense he forced three turnovers and a team high five groundballs. He demonstrated the qualities wanted in a team captain. He did a great job controlling the offensive possession and played unselfishly; putting the team above all else.

Joey Beyer (Long Beach, N.Y.), Andrew Wurz (Utica, N.Y.), and Connor Elsenbeck (Clinton, N.Y.) had two goals each in the game. Beyer finished with two goals, and assist, and three groundballs. Wurz contributed two goals, two groundballs, and a caused turnover. Elsenbeck had two goals and a groundball.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ryan Daucher (Geneva, N.Y.) forced a team high four turnovers and grabbed a groundball. Zach Evans (Whitesboro, N.Y.) scooped up five groundballs and forced two turnovers. Regan Seydler (Croghan, N.Y.) forced a turnover and hit the turf for four groundballs.

Wildcat goalie R.J. Ferrucci (Rome, N.Y.) earned his second win of the season. He faced 17 shots and made 11 saves in 58 minutes of play.

The Wildcats improve to 2-6 on the season with the win. The team will host Medaille on Saturday for their first taste of NEAC Conference play in the 2016 season. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field.
