Gifford, Serva Take Home NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – After monster weeks resulting in 3 wins for the Wildcats, SUNYIT juniors Tyler Serva (Chenango Forks, N.Y. / Chenango Forks) and Brett Gifford (Cazenovia , N.Y. / Cazenovia) were selected NEAC Men's Lacrosse Student-Athletes of the Week.

Serva was named Men's Lacrosse Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, while Gifford took home the honor for a Defensive player.

Serva, a junior for the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats, led his team to three victories after registering seven goals, five assists and 22 groundballs while handling all of the face-off duties and winning 37 out of 60 attempts.  Serva posted three goals, an assist and 10 groundballs while winning 15 out of 22 face-off opportunities in an 11-7 nonconference win over Mt. St. Mary Monday, which marked the first victory of the season for the Wildcats.  Serva then led SUNYIT to a pair of conference victories, totaling four goals, four assists, 22 groundballs and 22 face-off wins in victories over Cazenovia College and Medaille College, respectively.   Serva currently leads the conference in groundballs (107) and face-offs won (121).

Gifford was selected after a fantastic all-around week for the Wildcats. The junior defenseman helped guide the Wildcats to a 3-0 week and their first wins of the season, tallying 11 caused turnovers and 11 groundballs in addition to nine goals and three assists.  Gifford opened the week with a game-best three caused turnovers to go along with three goals and an assist in an 11-7 nonconference victory over Mt. St. Mary Monday to give SUNYIT its first win of the year.  He went on to post totals of eight caused turnovers, five groundballs and eight points (six goals, two assists) in a pair of conference wins over Cazenovia College and Medaille College, respectively, including a team-best four goals in the latter victory Saturday.  His 34 caused turnovers on the year are currently tops in the NEAC.
