Wildcats Grab First Program Victory in Style, 21-2 over Penn St.-Abington

ABINGTON, P.A. – The SUNYIT Men's Lacrosse Team (1-9, 1-4 NEAC) finally got the monkey off their back Saturday in Pennsylvania with a win over the Nittany Lions. The Wildcats dominated from wire-to-wire, going up 7-0 in the first period and adding from there for the 21-2 victory.

Leading the way for SUNYIT was standout middie Tyler Serva (Chenango Forks, N.Y. / Chenango Forks). Serva led SUNYIT in scoring with a sublime 5 goals and 3 assists. The sophomore's increased scoring output didn't mean he shirked his other duties, however, as the SUNYIT faceoff specialist won 15 of his 24 contests in that arena as well.

The Wildcats dominated in nearly every category on the day, out shooting the Lions 58 to 13, leading in ground balls 58 to 39, and forcing 40 Penn St.-Abington turnovers to just 29 on the SUNYIT side.

SUNYIT captain Adam Reynolds scored 4 goals to lead the other offensive usual suspects for the Wildcats: Kevin Gardrvits added 2 goals and 4 assists, Jon Eguren recorded 3 goals and an assist, and Travis Bivins and Trevor Totman each chipped in with a pair of goals.

More surprisingly, however, was junior middie Justin Shade (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville North) getting into the action, scoring both his first and second goals of the season. Fellow junior Chris Pace (Cortland, N.Y. / Cortland) also got into the action, scoring his second goal of the season.

SUNYIT will look to keep the momentum going in another conference game on Wednesday at Keuka. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm.
