Mustangs Cruise Behind 9 Points from Priest

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Lacrosse Team (0-9, 0-4 NEAC) was overrun by the Morrisville Mustangs (7-3, 4-0 NEAC) Tuesday night under the lights at Wildcat Stadium, 16-5. In particular, attack-man Dean Priest blitzed SUNYIT right out of the gate, scoring or assisting on five of Morrisville's first six goals.

The Mustangs as a team scored the first 7 goals of the game, and Priest would finish with an astounding 9 points on three goals and six assists.

Despite showing their youth in falling behind 8-2 at the half, the Wildcats refused to give in, putting another two goals on the board in the third quarter on a pair of unassisted goals by Tyler Serva (Chenango Forks, N.Y. / Chenango Forks). The sophomore middie had a remarkable game, scoring two goals to tie Kevin Gardrvits (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Glen Cove) for the team-high on the night, all while continuing his league-leading faceoff work. Serva took 16 of his 24 tries at center field, lifting his season total to a league best 138 faceoff victories.

Not to be out done, Gardrvits too moved into NEAC contention with his 2 goals and 1 assist, moving him into second in the conference in points with 29 on the season.

Perhaps telling in the young Wildcats program's first season, however, was the fact that SUNYIT was beaten in almost every team category. Most glaring was the turnover advantage enjoyed by Morrisville St. – the Mustangs coughed up the ball just 11 times compared with a whopping 30 from SUNYIT.

Ball security in general has plagued the Wildcats all season, as the Mustangs also converted on 18 of their 23 clear attempts, compared with just 14 of 20 for SUNYIT.

SUNYIT will look for better luck on the road, hitting the pavement for an away game this coming Saturday at Penn St.-Abington. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
