Tigers Take Down Wildcats Despite Dominant Effort by Faceoff Man Serva

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers (1-5, 1-1 NEAC) jumped out to an early lead on Saturday at Wildcat Stadium and held on despite a solid Wildcat (0-6, 0-1 NEAC) effort in the second half. The final score of the game was 16-9 in favor of the Tigers, who earned their first win of the season, but SUNYIT played to a 6-6 draw in the second half.

Kevin Gardrvits (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Glen Cove) continued his strong play of late, leading SUNYIT with three goals, but it was no match for Cobleskill attack-man Dan Scott, who burned the Wildcats for a whopping 6 goals and 1 assist. Scott scored at least one goal in every period, including all three of Cobleskill's' goals in the third period when the Wildcats were attempting to mount a comeback.

One continuing bright spot for the Wildcats, however, was the play of faceoff expert Tyler Serva (Chenango Forks, N.Y. / Chenango Forks). Only a sophomore, Serva has performed exceptionally at the middle of the field this season, and Saturday was no different as the 5-11 midfielder won a masterful 20 of his 26 faceoff attempts.

The Wildcats remain on the hunt for their first victory, traveling next to Cazenovia for their second conference game. Game time is slated for this Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
