MBB: Wildcats Beat Hamilton 84-76 to Pick Up 5th Straight Win.

CLINTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team beat Hamilton College on Sunday night 84-76 to win their 5th straight game. Cheickne Toure scored 23 points in the win, while LJ Randle added 22 points. The duo combined for 7 three-pointers in the winning effort. With the win, the Wildcats move to 11-7 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wildcats traveled to local rival Hamilton College on Sunday and came out ready to shoot the ball. The Wildcats would shoot 52% from both the field and from three-point range in the winning performance. Late in the first half Kamryn Comstock and LJ Randle would have back-to-back baskets to give the Wildcats a 38-28 lead, their largest of the half. Both teams would exchange a few baskets before LJ Randle hit a three-pointer with :03 seconds left in the half to give the Wildcats a 43-37 lead heading into halftime.

A relentless effort in the second half allowed the Wildcats to lead for the remainder of the game. The Continentals threatened with multiple runs but were unable to tie the game as the Wildcats would continue to answer with big baskets. Key free throws at the end of the game would seal the victory for the Wildcats, who head into a big week of conference play against SUNY Delhi and SUNY Morrisville. 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Cheickne Toure, LJ Randle, Josh Ernst, and Anthony Rose all finished in double digits for the Wildcats. Ernst led the team with 9 rebounds, while Toure led the team with 5 assists.

  • Hank Morgan scored 20 points for the Continentals, while also grabbing 6 rebounds and recording 3 steals.

  • The Wildcats shot an impressive 88.2% from the free-throw line, making 15 of 17 attempts.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday as they head to SUNY Delhi for a North Atlantic Conference game. The game will start at 5:30 PM.
