MBB: Wildcats Improve to 4-0 in NAC Play With Overtime Win Over Lyndon 108-98. 

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team earned an important NAC win over NVU-Lyndon on Friday 108-98 in overtime. Jesse O'Dell and Josh Gregory carried the team to victory. Both had monster double-doubles and each scored six points in the pivotal overtime period to secure the win. SUNY Poly is now 9-4 overall with a 4-0 record in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The game was tightly contested, especially in regulation where neither team was able to build a lead. The first half was a 43-42 advantage for the Wildcats, the second was a one-point advantage for Lyndon 48-47. The two teams played different styles of basketball with the Wildcats dominating the inside with a 70-46 advantage on points in the paint, and a 57-37 rebounding edge. Lyndon played well outside the paint, winning the three-point contest 9-1. The ultimate determining factor was better defense and shooting in the overtime period where SUNY Poly shot 71.4% from the field and held Lyndon to 27.3% shooting. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Jesse O'Dell was outstanding for the Wildcats. He scored 36 points on 12-16 shooting, went 12-14 from the charity stripe, and had a game-high 17 rebounds. The double-double was his fourth of the season. 

  • Josh Gregory was also great for SUNY Poly. He scored 31 points, had 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks. His double-double brings his total to six this season.

  • Alan Rodriguez had 13 points for the Wildcats. He also had three rebounds and three assists. 

  • LJ Randle scored nine points and had three rebounds for the Wildcats. 

  • Zach Falkenburg was Lyndon's leading scorer with 41 points on 14-25 shooting. He also had four rebounds and three assists. 

  • Luke Fredsell had 27 points for Lyndon. He shot 50% from three-point land in the game. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will host Union College on Saturday, January 8th. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start at the Campus Center Gym. No spectators will be allowed at the game, but it can be watched on the SUNY Poly Sports Network.
