MBB: Freeman's 24 Points Lead Wildcats to First NEAC Win of the Season.

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's basketball team earned their first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win of the season on Wednesday night over Cazenovia College 70-67. The Wildcats faced an early deficit thanks to a hot start by Cazenovia. The Wildcats closed the gap to three points at the half and took the lead late in the game to secure the win.

Cazenovia got off to a hot start, taking an 8-0 lead right off the tip. SUNY Poly would get some offensive momentum with 10 minutes left in the first half scoring 13 unanswered points to bring the game within four points. Redell Freeman (Rochester, N.Y.) scored five straight points to close out the first half, bringing the game within three points heading into the locker room.  

The two teams would duke it out in the first nine minutes of the second half with Cazenovia retaining a slim lead. Back-to-back jump shots by Kevin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tied up the game for the first time at 51 with 11:38 on the clock. The lead would change hands nine times in the final ten minutes.

Tymeek Mackie (Rochester, N.Y.) gave the Wildcats their final lead of the night on a late layup. Freeman and Williams would close out the game with four points to seal the deal, giving the Wildcats their first NEAC win of the season.

Redell Freman finished the game with a team high 24 points. He hit four of five from three-point range, had five assists, three rebounds, and a steal.

Kevin Williams scored 21 points on 7-11 from the field. Williams also had five rebounds, a block, and two steals. 

Tymeek Mackie had nine points and two rebounds.

For Cazenovia, Wil Thompson had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Nicholas Filippi had 13 points and a game high eight assists.

The Wildcats will host NEAC rival Keuka College. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM tip-off on Saturday December 2nd at SUNY Poly's Campus Center Gym.
