MBB: Tavern's Double-Double Leads Wildcats to Their Third NEAC Win Over Cobleskill.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team hosted SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday in a NEAC Conference match-up. The men came into the game looking to improve their conference record to 3-0 and succeeded in doing so with a convincing 72-59 win over the Fighting Tigers. The bench for the Wildcats attributed 32 points to the winning effort, and the Wildcats front court accounted for 74% of their total offensive production.

Tyler Taverne (Westmoreland, N.Y. / Westmoreland) had a phenomenal day for the Wildcats. He recorded his second double-double of the season scoring 16 points and grabbing a game high 12 rebounds. Taverne shot a solid 80 percent from the floor (8-10) and led all players with five offensive rebounds. Quayshaun Mitchell (Harlem, N.Y. / HS of Graphics Communication Arts) led all scorers with 18 points in 27 minutes of play. He also grabbed eight rebounds and recorded a block in the game.

Cobleskill was led by Malik Chambers who scored a team high 14 points and recorded one steal in the game. His teammate Brian Jackson added 11 points and four rebounds, a steal, and a block to the mix.

Statistically, the Wildcats had the edge in shooting percentage (49%-40%), rebounds (42-23), assists (13-3), and points in the paint (38-26). The Fighting Tigers shot better from 3-point range (32%-31%), shot better from the stripe (63%-58%), and had fewer turnovers (12-16).

With the win the Wildcats improve their season record to 4-7 (3-0 NEAC). The Wildcats will resume their NEAC campaign this weekend when they will host Wilson College on Saturday and Gallaudet on Sunday. Saturday's game will tip-off at 1:00 PM and will be streamed live HERE. Sunday's game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start and will be streamed HERE.
