MBB: Wildcats Suffer Loss at Alfred State 89-71

ALFRED, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team suffered its seventh loss of the season on Saturday at the hands of Alfred State. The men lost due in large part to a lack of offensive production in the first half where the Wildcats were outscored 43-26. The Wildcats would show some life in the second half as they attempted to battle back, however despite putting up 45 points the Pioneers kept them at bay. The final score of the game was 89-71.

For the Wildcats Malik Johnson (Highland Falls, N.Y. / James I. O'Neil HS) led the Wildcats with 11 points in 29 minutes of play. Malik also had a game high and season high seven assists. He also grabbed six rebounds and had a steal.  Quayshaun Mitchell (Harlem, N.Y. / HS of Graphics Communication Arts) and Terrynce Wilson (Bronx, N.Y. / South Bronx HS) each had nine points in the game. Mitchell also had a team high eight rebounds.

Statistically, the Pioneers had the edge in shooting percentage (58%-48%) and three point percentage (58%-35%). The three pointers were raining down for the Pioneers as 33 of their 89 points came from behind the arc. Alfred also had fewer turnovers (18-23) and more assists (27-18).

The loss drops the Wildcats season record to 3-7. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 13th when they host NEAC opponent SUNY Cobleskill. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Live stats and video will be available for the game HERE.
