Wildcats outlast Bison

Washington, D.C.- The SUNYIT Men's Basketball team (14-6, 9-4 NEAC) complete their weekend road trip with a 75-59 victory over Gallaudet (6-14, 5-8 NEAC). With the win, the Wildcats pick up their third straight victory and retain their hold on the number 3 ranking in the NEAC.

The first half was a tight battle throughout, with the Wildcats holding onto a 33-29 advantage at the break. The Wildcats led by as much as 11 points with just under 6 minutes to go in the half following a Salo Fofana (Bronx, N.Y. / George Washington) free throw. Gallaudet was able to chip away at the lead however making a 7-2 run to close their halftime deficit to 4.

Through a majority of the second half, the game remained very close, with both teams exchanging baskets. It wasn't until Ryan James (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) hit a pair of 3-pointers to cap off a 13-2 Wildcats run during a 3 minute span late in the half. James would then hit two free throws late to help the Wildcats secure the victory. James finished the game with 18 points to go along with 5 rebounds.

The Wildcats received a big contribution off the bench by Salo Fofana who finished the game with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Also playing a big role for the Wildcats was Kaleel Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y. / Syr. Acad. of Science) who tallied 16 points to go along with a game high 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Gallaudet's Joshua McGriff led his team with 18 points on the game, shooting 7-11 from the field.

The Wildcats are next in action Wednesday night as the NEAC's #2 ranked Morrisville State Mustangs invade the Campus Center Gym at 5:00 pm.
