Men’s Basketball Downed by NEAC-Leading Chargers

LANCASTER, Pa. – The conference-leading Lancaster Bible College Chargers (11-6, 9-1 NEAC) defended their home court on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Wildcats (11-6, 6-4 NEAC). The game snapped a four-game conference winning streak for SUNYIT.

SUNYIT shot 45% from the field and 40% from three-point range, decent numbers for most teams but the high-powered Wildcat offense has been shooting closer to 50% from the field for the season.

Five Wildcats scored in double-figures, with Alonzo Grainger (Syracuse, N.Y. / Liverpool) coming off the bench to lead with 15 points on 5 three-pointers.

Maverick Hodge (Bronx, N.Y. / Samuel Gompers) played another solid game from the point guard position, scoring 14 points while dishing out 7 assists, and Malcolm Jones (Syracuse, N.Y. / Fowler) added 12 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.

The Chargers also put five players in double-figures, and jumped out to a 44-30 lead at the half. The home team finished the game 51% from the field and made 7-of-14 from long range.

The home team stretched its lead to 22 points in the second half, but the Wildcats battled back, cutting it to a two-possession game with under a minute to go. The Chargers knocked down 7-of-8 free throws the rest of the way, however, to seal the win. Lancaster's advantage from the free throw line proved the difference in the game, as the home team made 19-of-25 to SUNYIT's 7-for-12.

The Wildcats will return home on Wednesday, as they host Keuka College in a 5:00 pm match up at the Campus Center Gym.
