Men’s Basketball Suffers Late-Game Loss

AURORA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Basketball Team (7-4, 2-3 NEAC) suffered another tough loss on Monday night, losing on a late-game three-pointer in a road contest with Wells, 90-87.

Senior Jonathan Hurtado hit the game-winner for the Express with eight seconds left in the game. Hurtado finished the game with 14 points.

SUNYIT was led by senior Ryan James (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) with 21 points, and Alonzo Grainger (Syracuse, N.Y. / Liverpool) connected on a 4-for-5 for the Wildcats from long-range.

SUNYIT led by as many as 13 points in the second half, up 74-61 with just over 10 minutes to play, but the home team rallied back with a 13-0 run to tie things up.

The Wildcats, as they have done all year, shot a high percentage from the field (52%) and buried 8 of their 14 three-point attempts, but were out scored from the free throw line by six, with the home team making 23 of 37 from the charity stripe while the Wildcats went 17 for 27.

The game Monday night was rescheduled from earlier in the season due to inclement weather, and so the Wildcats won't have to wait long for a chance at revenge: the Express come to the Campus Center Gym on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm home matchup.
