Men's Basketball Grabs Tough Road Win at Cobleskill

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Basketball Team (6-13, 3-6 NEAC) came up with a gutsy win Wednesday at SUNY Cobleskill (5-15, 3-7 NEAC). The Wildcats held on for a 67-66 victory, playing through 22 turnovers against an athletic Cobleskill press.

The Wildcats' efforts on defense were crucial, as SUNYIT out rebounded the Fighting Tigers 43 to 36 and held the home team to just 38% shooting.

Leading the way for SUNYIT was T'Andre Richardson (Utica, N.Y. / Utica-Proctor). The 6-5 forward came up huge for the Wildcats, registering a double-double on game-highs of 26 points and 13 rebounds. Richardson's 4 blocks were also a game-high, and his numbers were exceeded only by his efficiency, as the sophomore went 10 for 15 from the floor and 6 of 7 from the charity stripe.

Richardson's counterpart on the front line Kaleel Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y. / Syr. Academy of Science) also had a big game, pouring in 17 points on 8 of 11 from the field while grabbing 8 rebounds.

Ryan James (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Saratoga Springs) came up big for the Wildcats with 7 rebounds from the guard position, including a huge offensive rebound on a missed free throw late in the game. James ended up being fouled on the play and made both free throws.

Finally for the Wildcats, Desmian Greer (Washington Heights, N.Y. / Chesire Academy) turned in a gritty effort playing out of position for SUNYIT at point-guard. The 5-11 scorer usually attacks from the two, but filled in at point-guard for an under-manned Wildcats team.

SUNYIT will finish up a four-game road stint at Penn St.-Berks this Saturday before returning home to face the Fighting Tigers again. Saturday's game is slated for 3:00 pm.
