Men’s Basketball Falls at Home to Cortland, 73-60

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Wildcats (0-4) put up a strong effort at home on Friday night, but ultimately the 6-1 Cortland State Red Dragons proved too formidable, beating the Wildcats 73-60. The Red Dragons continued their hot shooting from long range, burying 11 three-pointers on the game.

Leading the way for the Wildcats in defeat was T'Andre Richardson (Utica, N.Y. / Utica-Proctor), who scored 16 points on 4 of 11 from the field and 8 of 11 from the line. The free throw line ended up being a bright spot for the Wildcats, who have struggled from the charity stripe so far this season but managed to knock down 21 of 27 Friday night, out shooting the Red Dragons by 15 in that category.

Taking charge for the visitors was Cortland's leading scorer Brian Manning. The senior guard scored a game-high 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting. Point guard Jesse Winter turned in probably the best performance of the night for the Red Dragons, however, scoring 16 points while dishing out a game-high 6 assists.

The Wildcats, for their part, put four players in double-digits on the night, as Kaleel Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y. / Syr. Academy of Science) scored 11 points and added 6 rebounds for the Wildcats.

SUNYIT will look for their first win next week as they take on Lehman College in another home contest. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm next Friday, December 14th.
