GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2011-12 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded to the top 15 players as selected by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also selected its regular season award winners. Morrisville State sophomore Mickey Davis (Jamesville, N.Y.) was chosen as the NEAC Player of the Year after a sensational season for the Mustangs. The 6-foot-5 forward led both his team and the NEAC in scoring at 17.9 points per game, while also posting averages of 6.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game after starting in all 25 Mustang contests on the season. Davis scored in the double digits in all but two contests on the year, highlighted by a single-game career-high of 35 points that earned him a NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honor this past December. His efforts this season also landed him on the All-Conference First Team.
Davis' coach, Joseph Smith, was named the NEAC Coach of the Year after guiding Morrisville State to a program-best 17-8 overall record, while finishing atop the NEAC North Division with a 14-1 record that earned the Mustangs the top overall seed in this weekend's NEAC championship tournament and the right host the event. Smith also had three of his players be chosen for NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week throughout the season.
The NEAC's inaugural Rookie of the Year award went to Penn State Abington freshman Mike Marvin (Horsham, Pa.). The 6-foot-6 forward finished the regular season as the NEAC leader in offensive rebounds (104), defensive rebounds (187), total rebounds (291) and rebounds per game (11.6), while also averaging 14.9 points per game on 54 percent (159-for-282) shooting from field, with the latter being good enough for fifth-best in the conference. He was twice selected as both the NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week on the year en route to landing on the All-Conference Second Team.
