Four Wildcats in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Takes Down SUNY Cobleskill 78-67

UTICA, NY – Senior Calvin Logins (Lyons, NY/Keuka College) dropped a game-high 26 points and four Wildcats scored in the double digits as the SUNYIT men's basketball team took down SUNY Cobleskill 78-67 in NEAC action at the Campus Center Gymnasium Saturday.  The Wildcats improved to 11-5 in the NEAC and 12-10 overall with the victory, while Cobleskill fell to 9-7 in conference play and 9-14 overall.

Logins shot 11-for-19 from the field on the day, with SUNYIT shooting 55 percent from the floor as a team, including 64 percent in the second half that helped the Wildcats blow the game open.

After Cobleskill opened the contest with a 6-0 lead, SUNYIT would quickly go on a 6-0 run of its own to the tie the game at 6 all.  The lead would exchange hands numerous times from there, with the Wildcats eventually heading into halftime with a four-point lead, 34-30.

Six straight points by SUNYIT to open the second half would quickly give them a commanding 10-point lead and Cobleskill could not recover, never getting any closer than five points down before suffering defeat.

Senior David Golembiowski (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) had his third straight double-double and twelfth one of the season with 22 points and game-high 16 boards while also swatting a game-best four shots. Senior Kevin Cappiello (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West) finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and a game-high six assists, while sophomore Justin Brignola (Clifton Park, NY/The Sage Colleges) added 11 points off the bench.

Brendan Doherty and Haneef Scott each scored 12 points for Cobleskill, while Damion Longmore chipped in 10 points.

The Wildcats will be back in action this Wednesday when they host conference rival Morrisville state in their final home game of the regular season.  The event will also mark the team's Senior Day, where Cappiello, Golembiowski and Logins will all be honored with a short ceremony before tip-off.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
