Late Three Sinks Wildcats

MIDDLETOWN, PA – A late 3-pointer gave the Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions a hard-fought 78-77 victory over the SUNYIT men's basketball team in NEAC action Saturday afternoon.  The Wildcats are now 5-4 in the NEAC and 6-9 overall, while Harrisburg improved to 8-2 in conference play and 8-8 overall.

Despite shooting 58 percent from the floor and outrebounding Harrisburg 42-20 on the day, the Wildcats were doomed by 24 turnovers that the Lions converted into 26 points.  It still took the final seconds to decide the outcome of the game, however.  Down two with 18 seconds remaining, Harrisburg's Nick Lidell was able to sink his fourth 3-pointer of the contest and give the Lions a one-point lead with 12 seconds left to play.  SUNYIT had one last chance to win, but senior David Golembiowski (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent), who had just given SUNYIT the lead with a pair of free throws on its last possession, missed a jumper as time expired that allowed Harrisburg to avenge last week's loss to the Wildcats and sneak away with the win.

Golembiowski finished with game highs of 27 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Calvin Logins (Lyons, NY/Keuka College) went 9-for-12 from the floor and finished with 20 points and nine rebounds.  Fellow classmate Kevin Cappiello (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West) registered 10 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Liddel finished with 18 points to lead Harrisburg, with Kenny Stone and David Reisinger each scoring 17 points.

The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on conference rival Gallaudet University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
