Men's Basketball Falls to Lehman in Coaches vs. Cancer Classic

BRONX, NY – The SUNYIT men's basketball team dropped its second contest in as many days with a 67-75 loss to Lehman College during the Third Annual CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Sunday.  The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-7 overall (2-2 NEAC), while Lehman improved to 5-4 on the year.

The Wildcats found themselves down 16-4 early, but would go on 25-13 run over the next 10 minutes to tie the game at 29 with 4:06 left before the break.  Two baskets by Lehman and a free throw by SUNYIT the rest of the way would put the score at 33-30 at intermission.

SUNYIT came out with a 15-6 run in the first five minutes of the second half to take a six point lead, but a 10-2 run by Lehman over the next three minutes gave them back the lead for good at 49-47.  Lehman would keep a single-digit lead the rest of the way, with the Wildcats getting as close as three points down with 3:23 left to play, but a 3-pointer on Lehman's next possession would double their lead and essentially seal the win.

Senior Calvin Logins (Lyons, NY/Keuka College) went 8-for-11 from the field and led SUNYIT with 19 points, while also producing a game-high five steals, five rebounds and four assists.  Junior Julian Bostick (Utica, NY/Herkimer County CC) scored 13 points, while senior Kevin Cappiello (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West) hit three 3-pointers and finished will 11 points.

Samuel Batista scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven boards for Lehman, while Jonathan DeJesus registered 15 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals.  Alain De La Cruz added 13 points.

The Wildcats are back in action this Saturday when they host Cortland State in their final game before the holiday break.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
