BASE: Wildcats Take Series Against Wells to Open 2024 Season.

AURORA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's baseball team opened up their 2024 season by going 2-1 in a three-game series against the Express. The Wildcats won the first two games on Saturday before dropping the series' final game on Sunday.

GAME 1:

In the first game, the Wildcats struck in the first inning on an RBI double from Ethan Merone to score Ryan Pelton and Parker Wing. Jack Montanye earned the opening day start and went five innings for the Wildcats, striking out six batters and giving up three earned runs to earn the victory, while Alex Quig recorded his first save of the season to seal the win for the Wildcats.

GAME 2: 

In the second game of the doubleheader, Wells would strike first in the bottom of the first, taking a 3-0 lead on a Jacobi James double and an AJ Campi single. The Wildcats responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom of the second, with Brody Liddy recording his first collegiate RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Ethan Merone, then after an Express error scored two runs, Ryan Pelton tripled to center field to score Parker Wing and Derek Menechino. Ryan Secor came in to earn his first save of the year after Aaron Kifer earned the win on the mound for the Wildcats.

GAME 3:

In the final game of the 3-game series, the Wildcats raced out to a 3-0 lead behind a double from Ethan Walker, a single from Ethan Merone, and a single from Ryan Pelton. The Express, however, would score four runs in the 5th inning, and two runs apiece in the 6th and 7th innings to take a 9-4 lead. The Wildcats would load the bases in the 8th and 9th innings, but would not be able to regain their early lead as they would fall 9-7.

The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, March 9th when they play a doubleheader against Keuka College.
