BASE: Wildcats Suffer Pair of Loses to SUNY Cobleskill in NAC Play.

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly baseball team fell to Cobleskill twice on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The Wildcats lost the first game 13-0 and the second game 6-4. With the two wins, Cobleskill secured the series win. SUNY Poly is now 7-14 this season with a 0-3 record in NAC play.

 

GAME ONE:

SUNY Poly – 0

SUNY Cobleskill – 13

SUNY Cobleskill scored eight runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Cobleskill scored in the inning on a walk, a hit by pitch, a David Flora single, a fielders choice, a balk, a triple by Matthew Snyder, an error, and a sacrifice fly by Logan Hutter.

 

The Fighting Tigers added to their lead in the fourth and fifth innings, capitalizing on wild pitches and defensive mishaps by SUNY Poly.

 

On the mound, Devin Lewis delivered a stellar performance for the Fighting Tigers, pitching six shutout innings. Lewis allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out five batters. Evan Balbera closed out the game, preserving the shutout with a scoreless seventh inning.

 

SUNY Poly struggled to find their footing offensively, managing only two hits throughout the game. James Lynch and Paul Barber recorded the lone hits for the Wildcats. Connor Marcello was the losing pitcher for the Wildcats.

 

GAME TWO:

SUNY Poly – 4

SUNY Cobleskill – 6

Cobleskill took an early lead in the second inning when David Flora launched a solo home run over the fence. They added to their advantage with Logan Firment's double, bringing in an unearned run, and Dylan Schwam's sacrifice fly, extending their lead to 3-0. Frank Leger's single brought in another run, giving Cobleskill a comfortable 4-0 lead.

 

SUNY Poly fought back in the third inning when Alexander Bonacci smacked a double to center field, bringing in two runs and reducing the deficit to 4-2. However, Cobleskill quickly responded in the fourth inning with Leger's double and Matthew Snyder's triple, widening the gap to 6-2.

 

Undeterred, SUNY Poly battled back in the fifth inning as Bonacci capitalized on a wild pitch and scored, bringing his team within striking distance at 6-3. In the seventh inning, SUNY Poly's Lukasz Dubicki took advantage of an error by Cobleskill's pitcher, advancing to third and subsequently scoring, cutting Cobleskill's lead to just two runs at 6-4. Despite their efforts, SUNY Poly couldn't muster any more runs, allowing Cobleskill to secure the victory.

 

Cobleskill's starting pitcher, Andrew Jarkow, earned the win after an impressive 6.1 innings on the mound. He allowed four runs on six hits while striking out five. Connor Mulligan came in for the final two outs, earning the save for Cobleskill.

 

Carter Romansky took the loss for SUNY Poly, lasting two innings and surrendering four runs on six hits. Jack Montanye came on in relief and pitched four solid innings, allowing two runs on six hits.

The Wildcats will host the final two games of the NAC five-game series with Cobleskill on Tuesday, April 11th. The games are scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:30 PM at SUNY Poly's Peter A. Spina Field.
