BASE: Wildcats Split With Cazenovia in NAC Play.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Baseball team split with Cazenovia on Saturday, winning the day's first game 2-0 thanks to a great pitching performance by Jack Montanye. The second game was a different story, as the Cazenovia bats came to life to the tune of seven runs to earn a 7-4 win. SUNY Poly is now 10-22 this season with a 3-10 record in NAC play.

 


GAME ONE:

Cazenovia – 0

SUNY Poly – 2

WP: Jack Montanye (4-3)

LP: Xander Canfield (0-5)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Carter Romansky gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead on an RBI double in the first inning that scored Aidan Coykendall. Romansky added another RBI in the sixth inning with a triple that scored Don Vento, who was pinch-running for Zack Byrum after he singled.

 

SUNY Poly starting pitcher Jack Montanye was dominant on the mound, throwing a complete game shutout while allowing just three hits and two walks. He struck out nine batters and improved his record to 4-3 on the season.

 

Cazenovia's Xander Canfield took the loss but was solid. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk in six innings pitched. He struck out four batters and fell to 0-5 on the season.

 

The Wildcat's four hits were split two each for Carter Romansky and Zach Byrum.

 


GAME TWO:

Cazenovia – 7

SUNY Poly – 4

WP: Parker Wing (2-2)

LP: Carter Romansky (1-6)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Cazenovia opened the scoring in the third inning when pitcher Parker Wing hit a two-run home run to left field, scoring Ryan Kennedy. Cazenovia continued their offensive prowess in the fourth inning with Jarod Gallegos hitting a single to center field, scoring Brandon Reid. Cazenovia would score two more on a throwing error in the inning to stretch their lead to five.

 

SUNY Poly started their comeback in the fourth inning when Paul Barber hit a two-run home run that scored Alexander Bonacci. Cazenovia would answer those runs with two of their own in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI double by Tristan Murray.

 

Ethan Merone had an RBI single to score James Lynch in the fifth to cut the lead to four. The Wildcats would plate one more run in the sixth inning on a single by Christopher Martin, but that is where the scoring stopped.

 

Cazenovia's pitcher Parker Wing was great, pitching seven innings and allowing four runs on eleven hits. He also had a home run and two RBIs. SUNY Poly's pitcher Carter Romansky suffered the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits in just 3.1 innings pitched.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday when they take on the Hamilton College Continentals in a non-conference game in Clinton, NY. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 PM first pitch.
