BASE: Wildcats Drop Non-Conference Road Game to Utica.

UTICA, N.Y. - SUNY Poly baseball lost to Utica on Wednesday 16-3 in non-conference play. The Wildcats are now 7-16 this season.

 

The Pioneers got one run in the first inning, then scored four and two runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively. Utica added a run in the sixth inning and put the game out of reach with eight runs in the eighth inning. SUNY Poly could only muster two runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth inning.

 

Dominic Fasolo led the way for the Pioneers, going 3-for-5 with six RBIs and two runs scored. John Son also had a good day, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Joe Battista and Jack Bono both added two RBIs. Steve Sclafani walked twice and scored three times, while Brendan May had two hits and an RBI.

 

Michael Johnson took the loss for SUNY Poly, giving up seven runs (two earned) on five hits over 3.2 innings. Fasolo's two-run homer in the third inning was the big blow against Johnson. Samuel Vainauskas and Joshua Slater also pitched for the Wildcats and slowed down the Utica offense, but a big eighth inning sealed the deal.

 

James Lynch and Don Vento each had two hits for SUNY Poly. Ryan Pelton and Paul Barber had RBIs for the visitors.

The Wildcats will take on SUNY Canton in the first game of a five-game series on Friday, April 14th. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Peter A. Spina Field.
