BASE: Canton Offense Too Much For Wildcats in Game One of 5-Game NAC Series.

UTICA, N.Y. - SUNY Poly was defeated by SUNY Canton 19-10 in a North Atlantic Conference game at Peter A. Spina Field on Friday. With the victory, the Roos improved to 7-15 (4-2 NAC) while SUNY Poly fell to 7-18 (0-6 NAC).

 

Canton's offense started hot with two runs in the second inning before piling on seven runs in the fifth inning and eight runs in the sixth inning. Shortstop Nick Shoemaker led the way for the Roos, going 3-for-6 with six RBIs. Dylan Allen also contributed with three runs and five hits. Nathan Welch had four RBI with a pair of hits.

 

SUNY Poly's offense struggled to keep up with Canton's, scoring four runs through the first five innings to Canton's 11. The Wildcats managed to score six more runs in the sixth and seventh inning, but that was all the offense they could muster.

 

Alexander Bonacci hit a home run for the Wildcats in the third inning. He went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ethan Merone and Carter Romansky each had three hits, both going 3-for-5. Ryan Pelton had a pair of RBI and a double. Don Vento also had two RBI. Chris Martin had two hits for the Wildcats.

 

Senior Gavin Neuland picked up the win on the mound for Canton. He allowed nine runs over six innings while striking out two batters. Senior Carter Romansky took the loss for SUNY Poly, giving up nine runs (two earned) over four and a third with three strikeouts.

The Wildcats will look to bounce back in games two and three of the five-game series with Canton on Saturday. The games are scheduled for 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN).
