BASE: Wildcats Take Three From Cazenovia to Tie Season Series 3-3.

MARCY, N.Y. - Entering the weekend, the Wildcats trailed Cazenovia 0-2 in the six-game North Atlantic Conference season series. Needing to either tie or win the series, in four games, The Wildcats took to the field to try and win at least three of four games. They nearly won all four, but a walk-off win for Cazenovia in Saturday's first game ended up creating a 3-3 split for the NAC rivals. The Wildcats the next three games 12-8, 11-0, 15-2 to tie the series. The series tie keeps the Wildcats right in the hunt for the post-season. Poly is now 4-4 in NAC play. 

 

GAME ONE: SUNY Poly 5, Cazenovia 6

The first game of the series was a heartbreaker for the Wildcats. SUNY Poly struck first on a solo home run by Jake Montrose in the top of the second inning. Cazenovia answered back in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on a home run and a pair of RBI doubles. Jack Lees singled in another run for Cazenovia in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-1 game. SUNY Poly would start to chip away at Cazenovia's lead in the fourth, scoring two runs on a wild pitch and an RBI double by Luke Carpenter. Paul Barber would make it a one-run game in the sixth with an RBI double. Michael Cough tied the game just one batter later on a sacrifice fly to center field that scored James Lynch. Despite best efforts, Caz would walk it off on an RBI walk in the bottom of the seventh inning. The final score of the game was 6-5.  

 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Kevin Flynn threw six innings for the Wildcats, earning a no-decision. He struck out two and allowed just two earned runs. 

  • Jake Montrose went 2-3 with a home run and an RBI. It was his second career home run for the Wildcats. 

  • Bradley Dietz went 2-4 with a pair of singles in the game. 

  • Paul Barber went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. 

  • Luke Carpenter went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. 

 

GAME TWO: SUNY Poly 12, Cazenovia 8

The Wildcats bounced back from the tough loss in the first game with a big offensive burst in game number two. The Wildcats scored 12 runs en route to the game two win. The Wildcats scored four in the third, two in the fifth, and six in the sixth to earn the win. The Wildcats had three players go yard in the game. Jake Montrose hit his second of the day, Kyle Liddy hit his second of the season, and Zack Hyland hit his first career home run. 

 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Dylan Sheely earned his first win in the blue and gold. He threw five innings, allowed three runs, and struck out eight batters. 

  • Jake Montrose drove in two runs with a double and a home run. He went 2-4. 

  • Paul Barber had three doubles in the game for the Wildcats. He went three for four with an RBI. 

  • Zack Hyland went 3-4 in the win. He had a home run, an RBI, and scored two runs. 

  • Alexander Bonacci had a pair of hits in the game including a triple. He drove in three runs. 

  • Kyle Liddy went 2-4 with a home run and four RBIs. 

  • Chris Ling and Bradley Dietz rounded out the multi-hit Wildcats. They each had two hits, going 2-5. Dietz scored twice, Dietz scored once. 

 

GAME THREE: SUNY Poly 11, Cazenovia 0

While the Wildcats had another outstanding offensive showing in game three of the weekend, the story of the game was Wildcat starting pitcher Ci'an Kenny. Kenny had an all-time great pitching performance for the Wildcats. He threw a complete-game shutout and allowed just two hits. He did not walk a batter and had three strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. The Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the first, four in the bottom of the fifth, and four in the bottom of the sixth.

 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Ci'an Kenny had an all-time great pitching performance for the Wildcats. He threw a complete-game shutout and allowed just two hits. He did not walk a batter and had three strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.

  • Chris Ling had a pair of hits in the game, scored a pair of runs, and had an RBI. 

  • Michael Cough went 2-3 with a run scored. 

  • Bradley Dietz had a double, an RBI, and a pair of walks in the game. He went 1-1. 

  • Alexander Bonacci went 1-3 and scored three runs for the Wildcats. 

  • Jake Montrose had a team-high three RBIs on a bases-clearing double.

  • Kyle Liddy went 1-2 with a walk, scored three runs, and drove in two. 

  • Paul Barber went 1-2 with a double and two RBIs. 

 

GAME FOUR: SUNY Poly 15, Cazenovia 2

The Wildcats got off to another hot start in the final game of the series with Cazenovia. Two big innings were the difference in the game. Four runs in the second and eight runs in the fifth all but sealed the deal for SUNY Poly. Carter Romansky got the win on the mound for SUNY Poly. He is now 2-0. He had seven strikeouts and allowed no runs on five hits. 

 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Six Wildcats had multiple hits in the game. Five Wildcats had multiple RBIs in the win. 

  • Zack Hyland went 2-3 with four RBIs. He also scored two times. 

  • Michael Cough went 203 with a double, three runs scored, and a pair of RBIs. 

  • Paul Barber went 2-4 with a triple and two RBIs. 

  • Alexander Bonacci went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. 

  • Bradley Dietz had a pair of RBIs with a double. 

  • Chris Ling went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. 

  • Carter Romansky improved to 2-0 this season. He struck out seven batters in five innings of work.

The Wildcats will open up their season series with SUNY Canton on Thursday with a double-header in Canton, NY. First pitch is scheduled for The Wildcats will play their next six games of the season against the Roos.
