MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly baseball team opened up their season on Tuesday with a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader against Cazenovia. The Wildcat offense struggled to get going in game one and continued to struggle in game two. Cazenovia won game one 6-1 behind a solid pitching performance by Cazenovia's Joe DeGroot. Game two was halted due to darkness. At the end of the sixth inning, Cazenovia had an 11-0 lead.
GAME ONE:
Game one started with a three-run inning for Cazenovia on a pair of RBI singles. The first, by Joe Brisson, drove in two. Kamm Cassidy followed that up with an RBI single to give Caz a 3-0 lead. Cazenovia would add another run in the 2nd on a Cameron Clampaglia single to make it 4-0. The Wildcats got on the board in the fifth when Alexander Bonacci (Rocky Point, N.Y.) hit a ground ball up the middle that was mishandled, allowing Zach Hyland (Clifton Park, N.Y.) to score. Cazenovia added two more runs in the sixth to seal the deal, winning the game 6-1.
NOTES:
- Kevin Flynn (Deerfield, N.Y.) was the pitcher of record for the Wildcats. He was tagged with the loss after 3.2 innings pitched. He allowed four earned runs and struck out five batters.
- Joe DeGroot was the winning pitcher for Cazenovia. He went 6.2 innings, allowed no earned runs, and struck out seven.
- Alexander Bonacci went 2-4 in his collegiate debut with a double.
- Bradley Dietz (Phoenix, N.Y.) hit a double for the Wildcats. He went 1-2 with a walk in his season debut.
- Noah Valvo (Town of Wright, N.Y.) had a solid outing for the Wildcats on the mound. He threw 2.1 innings in relief. He had five strikeouts.
- Cazenovia's Parker Wing had a solid day at the plate. He went 3-5 with a double and scored a run.
- Miguel Rivera and Joe Brisson each drove in a pair of runs for Caz. Rivera went 2-4, Brisson went 1-3 with a walk.
Game two was halted due to darkness and will be finished at a later date. SUNY Poly was trailing 11-0 at the time of the halt. The likely date for resumption is April 24th when the Wildcats will again host Cazenovia at Peter A. Spina Field

The Wildcats game on Saturday, April 10th has been postponed. A makeup date has not yet been announced. The Wildcats are actively seeking a replacement game to fill the schedule for this week.
