LANCASTER, Pa. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats extended its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) winning streak to five on Saturday with two big wins over Lancaster Bible passing the Chargers in the NEAC standings and jumping into a tie for fourth place with defending Champions Penn State Berks. The first game of the double header held some serious historical significance for Wildcat Athletics. The 13-5 win will go down in the record books as Head Coach Kevin Edick's 300th of his career.

Kevin Edick started the baseball program at SUNY Poly in 1991. He has steadily grown the program over the past 27 seasons into a consistent playoff contending team. In his time as head coach, Edick has been a positive force and a role model for hundreds of SUNY Poly's student-athletes. He has always expected the best from his players and has done it with dignity and class through the good seasons and bad. 300 wins is a fitting accomplishment that will forever highlight this, his final season at the helm of the SUNY Poly baseball team. Congratulations Coach Edick on your 300th win.

GAME 1

In game one, the Wildcats put up 10 unanswered runs to start the game, scoring two in the first, six in the second, and two in the third. The Chargers would push across a run in the bottom of the third, but SUNY Poly would answer with two more runs in the fourth. The deficit was too much for Lancaster Bible to overcome and the Wildcats took the win 13-5.

Brett Flint (Amsterdam, N.Y.) earned the win for the Wildcats throwing six innings, allowing two earned runs on nine hits.

Raymond Smith (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 3-3 in the game with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks.

Ryan Wegner (Rochester, N.Y.) went 3-4 in the game with a double and four runs scored out of the leadoff spot. He currently leads the Wildcats with a .405 average and is fifth in the NEAC.  

Dante Rose (Utica, N.Y.) and Connor Manderson (New Hartford, N.Y.) each had two hits in the game. Rose had an RBI and two runs scored. Manderson had two RBIs on two sacrifice flies and a run scored.

Joseph Cascella (Staten Island, N.Y.) also had two RBIs for the Wildcats. The senior went 1-3 in the game with a walk.

For Lancaster Bible, Josh Mayer went 3-5 with an RBI. Braden Elliot was the only other Charger with multiple hits in the game going 2-5. Nate Staffieri was pinned with the loss on the mound. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits in two innings.

GAME 2

Game two of the double-header was a continuation of the first for the Wildcat offense. The team put up 14 runs on 12 hits. This time, SUNY Poly got out to a 12-0 lead in the first three innings after scoring five in the second and seven in the third. Lancaster Bible had seven hits in the game but only put up four runs.

Chris Nicotera (Frankfort, N.Y.) went 2-4 in the game with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk.

Josh Rodriguez (North Syracuse, N.Y.) hit the first home run of the season for the Wildcats in the eighth inning. He went 2-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a sac fly.

Dante Rose had a team high four RBIs in the game. Rose hit a bases loaded double in the third that drove in three runs. Rose also scored a run and walked in the game.

Dylan Jones (Brookfield, N.Y.) threw a great game for the Wildcats. The senior went six innings, allowing just two runs on five hits. Jones struck out five batters in the game. He currently has the best ERA and the most strikeouts of any Wildcat pitcher this season.

For the Chargers Justin Taylor had the only multi-hit game. He went 2-4 with an RBI. Kyle Ebersole was the pitcher of record for Lancaster Bible. He allowed nine earned runs in three innings and was tagged with his first loss of the season.

The Wildcats are now 5-3 in the NEAC and are tied for fourth place. The Wildcats will be back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon when they will take on Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM with game two to follow.
