BASE: Walks and Errors Cost Wildcats Two at Bard.

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDAON, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly baseball team traveled to Bard College on Sunday to take on the Raptors in a non-conference double-header. The Wildcats lost both of the contests, the first in extra innings 7-6 and the second 13-5.

Game One

In the first game, the Wildcats and Raptors went into extra innings with the Wildcats ultimately losing on a walk-off walk with the bases loaded in the eighth. The Wildcats scored six runs on nine hits and held the lead entering the bottom of the seventh before allowing the tying run to score on a double to left center field.

Brett Flint (Amsterdam, N.Y.), the starting pitcher for the Wildcats, earned a no decision. The sophomore threw 6.1 innings allowing six runs on 11 hits. Flint struck out four and walked three in the game. Flint left the game in the seventh with one out after allowing the tying run to score. Drew Scharra (Springville, N.Y.) took over and got out of the seventh, but lost the game in the eighth thanks to three walks and a hit by pitch.

Tyler Vyce (Halfmoon, N.Y.) and Connor Critelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) each had two hits in the game. Vyce went 2-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Critelli went 2-3 with two RBIs.

Dante Rose (Utica, N.Y.) went 1-2 in the game with a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI. Connor Manderson (New Hartford, N.Y.) had an RBI and went 1-4. Manderson threw out three of three runners from behind the plate.

Game Two

The second game saw a big comeback from Bard take down the Wildcats. SUNY Poly scored four runs in the top of the first inning and looked to be in good shape when they tacked on one more in the top of the second. The Wildcats let up three runs in the third and fell apart in the fourth allowing 10 runs to the Raptors on seven hits and two errors. The final score of the game was 13-5.

Connor Manderson had another good game for the Wildcats. The junior went 2-3 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Manderson threw out one of two runners in game two to end up 4-5 on the day.

Dante Rose had two RBIs in the game for the Wildcats on a two run double down the left field line in the top of the first. Rose ended the game 1-3.

Dean Natalizio (Port Jervis, N.Y.) got the start at third base for the Wildcats. The freshman went 2-3 in the game.

Jacob Moline (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) started on the mound for the Wildcats and earned a no decision. Moline threw 4 innings allowing three earned runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked six.

Dylan Jones (Brookfield, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss in the game after allowing four runs in two thirds of an inning. The Wildcats used five pitchers in the game.

The two losses drop SUNY Poly to 1-12 on the year while Bard improves to 5-5. The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday when they will travel to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons in a non-conference game. The single nine-inning game is scheduled for a 3:30 PM first pitch.
