LANCASTER PA.- The SUNY Poly Baseball Team (7-8, 3-1 NEAC) were able to overcome a heartbreaking game one loss in a big way to salvage a double header split on the road with NEAC foe Lancaster Bible (6-11, 2-4).
Game one was a pitchers duel through the first 7 innings as the Wildcats crafty right hander Sawyer Haney (Cooperstown, N.Y./ Cooperstown) kept the Chargers hitters off balance in his 7 innings of work allowing just 4 hits and 2 earned runs.
After a 3 run top of the 8th the Wildcats faltered however allowing the hosts to tally 6 runs including a Caleb Mayer 3 run home run to seal their 8-5 victory.
Alex Helenek (Troy, N.Y./ Niskayuna) took the loss for the Wildcats on the mound wile Mitch Kumher picked up the victory for the Chargers.
Game two was a completely different story as the Wildcat offense erupted. The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and didn't look back from there including a 7 run 6th inning as they cruised to an 18-0 victory.
9 Wildcats tallied hits in the game including 4 from freshmen Josh Rodriguez (Syracuse, N.Y./ Cicero-North Syracuse) who finished the double header 7-9 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Offense wasn't the only thing that stood out for the Wildcats in the second game however; Senior righty Joseph Redmond (Stone Bridge, N.Y./ Rondout Valley) was nearly untouched as he went the distance, allowing just two hits while striking out 8 batters in the shut out win.
