Jim Sass Named to Capital One Academic All-America 2nd Team

MARCY, N.Y. – SUNYIT baseball player and reigning 3-time SUNYIT Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) earned yet another prestigious academic honor following a tremendous senior season for the Wildcats.

Sass, who graduated this past May with a 3.91 GPA in Electrical Engineering Technology, was already named a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District selection back on May 1st, but picked up Academic All-America honors just last week, one of only 22 players nationwide at the Division III level to make the team, and the only baseball player in the NEAC (the conference in which SUNYIT competes) to earn the honor.

A four-year player for SUNYIT, Sass was a team captain in 2014. An outstanding defensive second basemen, Sass also hit .316 while leading the Wildcats in runs scored (35) and walks (15), while finishing second on the team in hits with 43.

Off the field, Sass has won SUNYIT's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award three-straight times. The award is given out each year to the SUNYIT male athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. Coincidentally, Sass's sister – Jessica Sass (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) – has been opposite him the past two seasons, taking home SUNYIT's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award while competing in volleyball and lacrosse for the Wildcats.
