Wildcats Earn Doubleheader Sweep of Cazenovia, Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

CAZENOVIA,N.Y.- The SUNYIT Baseball team (15-16, 10-8 NEAC) picked up a much needed double header sweep of Cazenovia College (5-25, 1-14 NEAC) Thursday as they took games by the scores of 10-0 and 6-0.

Game one saw the Wildcats jump out to a quick first inning lead as a Kevin Rowlands (New York Mills, N.Y./ Notre Dame) double plated two runners in the opening frame. The Wildcats would only be kept off the board in two innings from there as they piled on 10 runs and 16 hits. All 9 Wildcat starters tallied hits as Connor Passalacqua (Whitesboro, N.Y./ Whitesboro) led the way going 4-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y./ Kingston) did his part as well as he went 2-3, scoring two runs and walking twice with Dylan Gorski (Whitestown, N.Y./ Whitesboro) adding two doubles and 3 RBI to the Wildcat attack.

Joseph Redmond picked up the complete game shutout on the mound as he threw 7 innings, striking out 8 and allowing just 4 hits.

Game two was a similar story as a first inning sacrifice fly by Kevin Rowlands had the Wildcats on the board. It was Ryan Dungey (Vernon, N.Y./ VVS) and Joseph O'Rourke's (Camden, N.Y./ Camden) turn to lead the attack. Dungey went 2-2 with a double and two walks, while scoring four runs. O'Rourke went 2-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored as the Wildcats took game two 6-0.

Junior lefty Jeff Albirght (New York Mills, N.Y./ New York Mills) pitched the complete game shutout in game two as he went 7 innings allowing just 5 hits while striking out 3.

With the wins, the Wildcats put themselves in position to make the NEAC tournament pending this weekend's games around the conference. The Wildcats take the road tomorrow for a nonconference matchup with cross town rivals Utica College at 4:00 pm.
