Wildcats Swept by Penn St.-Berks

READING PA.- They SUNYIT Baseball team (13-15, 8-7 NEAC) dropped all three games of their weekend series with Penn St.-Berks (15-15, 11-4 NEAC) as they find themselves fighting for their playoff lives.

Saturday saw a double header sweep by Berks as they won game one by the score of 6-1 and game two 7-3. Game one saw Berks pitcher Kyle Hartman shut down the Wildcats as he threw a complete game 5 hitter. The Wildcats scored in the top of the first however an error filled 4th inning allowed Berks to score 4 runs and they would never look back from there.

Game two the Wildcats dropped 7-3 as they again jumped out to a lead in the top of the first. The Nittany Lions again had the answers however as they clawed their way back taking a 4th inning lead and shutting the door on the Wildcat attack from there.

Kevin Rowlands (New York Mills, N.Y./ Notre Dame) went 4-5 on Saturday with a run and an RBI as he led the Wildcat offense, doing his part to keep the team alive.

Sunday saw the Wildcats fall in walk off fashion to Berks as the Nittany Lions put up a run in the 8th and 9th innings to put down the visitors 4-3. The game was a pitchers duel that saw Joseph Redmond (Stone Ridge, N.Y. / Rondout Valley H.S.) go 8 innings strong for the Wildcats allowing 3 runs while striking out 10 batters. Ryan Tantala got the best of the Wildcats however as he earned the victory with a complete game allowing just 3 runs on 7 hits.  

Rowlands stayed hot on Sunday as he went 4-4 with a run and RBI to lead the Wildcats. Dante Rose (Utica, N.Y./ Notre Dame) did his part as well going 2-3 on the day.

The Wildcats will look to rebound and get things back on track as Union College visits Peter A. Spina Field for a 3:30 pm game Wednesday.
