Wildcats Use Fast Start to Top Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y.- The SUNYIT Baseball team (13-12, 8-4 NEAC) took the road for their first of a 5 game road trip Thursday as they bested Cazenovia (5-20, 1-9 NEAC) 13-6.

The Wildcats got out to a fast start as a Joseph O'Rourke (Camden, N.Y./ Camden) single in the first pushed the lead to 2-0. After a two run second, the Wildcats carried the momentum.

With a 4-1 lead going into the fourth, the Wildcats offense exploded for 5 runs in the top of the frame to extend their lead. The scoring started as Dante Rose (Utica, N.Y./ Notre Dame) singled home Dylan Gorski (Whitestown, N.Y./ Whitesboro) following a Gorski hit to open the frame. Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y./ Kingston) brought home two more runs as he doubled to keep the rally going. It was then Kevin Rowlands (New York Mills, N.Y./ Notre Dame) turn as he also doubled to left center, plating Sass. A Dominick Galimo (Utica, N.Y./ Notre Dame) sacrifice fly capped off the scoring as the Wildcats had a healthy 9-1 lead.

The Wildcats weren't done however as they continued to add runs in the later innings. The scoring was highlighted by Joseph O'Rourke as he hit a solo home run to right center field in the top of the 6th inning. O'Rourke wasn't done there as he added an RBI single in the 8th to cap off a 3-5 day where he scored one run and drove in three.

The Wildcats were also led by Sass who went 3-5 with two runs and two RBi, Rowlands who was 4-5 with three runs and an RBI as well as Rose who was 3-3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI.

Joseph Redmond (Stone Ridge, N.Y./ Rondout Valley) picked up the win on the mound as he tossed 5 innings, allowing just 4 hits while striking out two.

Cazenovia was led by Taylor Enck who went 4-5 on the day as well as Zach Levanduski who was 2-5 with 3 RBI.

The Wildcats continue their road trip as they travel to Penn St.-Abington Friday for a 9 inning NEAC showdown.
