Wildcats use 8th Inning Rally to Down Lancaster Bible

MARCY, N.Y.- The SUNYIT Baseball team (11-11, 6-3 NEAC) used timely hitting along with stellar pitching to take down Lancaster Bible College (7-15, 2-9 NEAC) 8-3 in the first game of their 3 game series.

The Wildcats jumped on the back of pitcher Joseph Redmond (Stone Ridge, N.Y./ Rondout Valley) as he held the Chargers scoreless through the first 7 innings of the game. The Wildcats gave Redmond some support in the bottom of the 6th as back to back Kevin Rowlands (New York Mills, N.Y./ Notre Dame) and Joseph O'Rourke (Camden, N.Y./ Camden) RBI doubles highlighted a 3 run rally.

Redmond held the Chargers in check until an 8th inning Matt Taliercio double  to deep right center plated two runs, ending Redmond's 21 inning scoreless streak. The Chargers tacked on another run in the frame as they tied the game at 3.

The Wildcats found the answer though, as they batted around in the bottom of the 8th. Timely hits and aggressive base running allowed four different Wildcats to drive in runs during the inning as the hosts pushed 5 runs across the plate.

The Wildcats then turned the ball over to senior Ryan Dungey (Vernon, N.Y. / Vernon) who closed the door on the Charger's and finished the game.

The Wildcat attack was led by Rowlands who went 3-4 scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 runs, as well as  O'Rourke who went 2-4 with an RBI and run scored.

Redmond earned his 4th win of the season as he threw 8 innings allowing just 5 hits and 2 earned runs.

The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow as they close out the series with Lancaster Bible with a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
