Dominant Pitching and Clutch Hits Propel Wildcats to Sweep of Keuka

MARCY, N.Y.-  The SUNYIT Baseball team (9-8, 4-0 NEAC) used back to back stellar pitching performances and timely hitting to earn a double header sweep of visiting Keuka College (7-8, 2-3 NEAC) by scores of 2-1 and 1-0.

Game one starter Jeff Albright (New York Mills, N.Y./ New York Mills) threw six solid innings allowing just one unearned run as a second inning error allowed the lone Storm run. Albright shut things down from there as he struck out six batters while only walking one and giving up three hits.

It took some time for the Wildcat bats to wake up, however a 6th inning double to right center field by freshmen Tyler Vyce (Waterford, N.Y./ Shenendehowa)  followed by an Anthony Ragosta (Troy, N.Y./ Troy) single up the middle plated two Wildcat runs and proved to be the difference.

The Wildcats then turned the ball over to closer Ryan Dungey (Vernon, N.Y./ VVS) who shut down the Storm with a 1-2-3 7th inning to earn the save and secure the victory.

Game two was the same story, just a different cast. Joe Redmond (Stone Ridge, N.Y./ Rondout Valley) picked up his third win of the season, extending his scoreless inning streak to 14 as he threw 7 scoreless, allowing just four hits while striking out three. Redmond and the Wildcat defense shut the door as they didn't allow a runner past first base in the game.

It was senior Captain Jim Sass' (Kingston, N.Y./ Kingston) turn to produce the clutch hit as a single to center field plated freshmen Nick Giunta (Rexford, N.Y./ Shenendehowa) for the lone run of the game. The Wildcat defense stayed strong and closed the door for the final six outs to earn the 1-0 victory.

The Wildcats are back in action Saturday as they host NEAC foe Gallaudet for a double header starting at 1:00 pm.
