Division III Week Senior Spotlight: Jim Sass

Division III Week Senior Spotlight: Jim Sass

Today's featured SUNYIT senior is the SUNYIT Baseball Team's second basemen Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y./ Kingston)

Sass is currently in his final season for the Wildcats as he continues to hold down the defense at second base and anchor the lineup hitting in the leadoff spot. He is currently hitting .380 with a .500 on base percentage through the first 15 games of the season.

Sass has played in almost 100 games at SUNYIT recording a career fielding percentage of .941 as he has accounted for 129 career put outs and 26 double plays in his career. He is a career .274 hitter who has tallied 50 runs on 73 hits in his four years.

Sass serves as the team's Captain and is described by Coach Kevin Edick as someone that "leads by example" and "people want to follow." He is the person who gets the job done no matter what the situation and is a true leader both on and off the field.

Off the field, Sass has maintained a phenomenal GPA in the Electrical Engineering Technology program and has been honored as a scholar athlete every season he has played. In both 2012 and 2013, Sass was named SUNYIT Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, an award given to the male student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA for the year.

Sass looks to continue to lead the Wildcats as a NEAC title would be the perfect complement to his already resounding career.
