Wildcats Pick Up Crucial League Wins on Road; Move into Fourth-Place Tie in Conference

LANCASTER, Pa. – The SUNYIT Men's Baseball Team moved to 7-7 in conference with a pair of road victories Saturday. The Wildcats defeated the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College, 4-2 and 11-8 to move into a fourth-place tie with Penn St.-Berks in the conference standings.

In the first game the Wildcats handed the ball to senior Daniel Wiecek. As he's done all season, the righty did not disappoint. Wiecek threw his fourth complete game of the season to earn the win, going seven strong while striking out 4 and walking 3.

The Wildcats scored two in the top of the 6th, taking advantage of a Charger error and a passed ball to take the 4-2 lead. Joseph O'Rourke led the Wildcats at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double.

In the second game SUNYIT scored in each of the first three innings to take a 7-2 lead. The home team would not go down without a fight, however, coming back with 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull within one. But the Wildcats answered with three runs in the top of the 5th, and added another in the 7th to hang on for the 11-8 victory.

SUNYIT pounded out 12 hits on the game, and played perfect defense while taking advantage of 5 Lancaster errors.

Jeff Albright picked up the win for SUNYIT, going five innings before giving way to Mike Rose, who threw two innings of relief.

Third basemen Devin Frye had a day at the plate for the Wildcats in the nightcap. The senior went a perfect 4-for-4, scoring 2 runs and knocking in another.

SUNYIT will return home for Senior Day tomorrow, which the team will celebrate in conjunction with their Breast Cancer Awareness game. The Wildcats host St. Joseph's of Brooklyn, N.Y., with the first game starting at 11:00 am.
