SUNYIT Baseball Weekend Recap

SUNYIT Baseball Weekend Recap

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Baseball Team wrapped up a weekend road stint on Sunday. Recaps are below:

Saturday, April 13

GAME 1…GALLAUDET 15, SUNYIT 2

The home Bison jumped all over the Wildcats in game one of the two teams' conference doubleheader on Saturday, knocking in 15 runs on 11 hits. Gallaudet catcher Casey Hicks led the way with 4 RBI's on 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a triple.

On the visitor side, designated hitter Phil Mascitelli (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont H.S.) had the Wildcats only RBI, going 1-for-2 with a base hit.

GAME 2…GALLAUDET 3, SUNYIT 0

In game two, SUNYIT hurler Jeff Albright (New York Mills, N.Y. / New York Mills H.S.) pitched a gem, surrendering just 2 earned runs in 6 innings of work. Unfortunately for Albright, his counterpart for Gallaudet was equal to the task, as Brandon Holsworth threw a complete-game shutout to pick up the win for the Bison.

Holsworth gave up just 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking one. Shortstop Tommy Barksdale had a home run and an RBI for the Bison, while Joseph O'Rourke (Camden, N.Y. / Camden H.S.) had a double for the Wildcats.

Sunday, April 14th

GAME 1…Penn St.-Harrisburg 7, SUNYIT 1

The Nittany Lions put four runs up in the bottom of the first inning, in a rare rocky start for SUNYIT pitcher and reigning NEAC Pitcher of the Week Daniel Wiecek (Fort Plain, N.Y. / Fort Plain H.S.).

The Lions were aided by two SUNYIT errors in the inning, as leftfielder Colton Houseal took advantage with a two-out RBI double to left field.

Wiecek gutted out 4 innings before being relieved by M.J. Hajek (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro H.S.), who threw two scoreless to finish out the game for the Wildcats.

GAME 2…Penn St.-Harrisburg 4, SUNYIT 1

In game two Penn St.-Harrisburg chipped away at the Wildcats, scoring a run in the second inning, two in the third, and one in the fourth while pitcher Will Chaney shut down SUNYIT, pitching all seven innings and not allowing a run until a sacrifice fly by Chandler Evans (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford) plated the Wildcats only run of the day.

Wildcat lefty Michael Rose (Chatham, N.Y. / Chatham H.S.) did his best to scatter 8 hits over his five innings of work, but the Wildcats just couldn't muster enough offense to get the senior a win.
