SUNYIT Baseball Splits Double-Header With CCNY 11-5, 2-3

New York, N.Y.- The Wildcats headed to the big apple on Saturday to play a double-header against the CCNY Beavers at Randall's Island. The Wildcats won game one by a score of 11-5 but lost game two 3-2 to split the two game set.

GAME 1

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead by putting up 4 runs in the top of the second inning. Chandler Evans (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford H.S.) had 2 RBIs in the 2nd inning on a single to left field that scored Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston H.S.) and Joseph O'Rourke (Camden, N.Y. / Camden H.S.). Evans finished out the game with 2 hits, 3 RBIs a stolen base and a walk. Jeff Albright (New York Mills, N.Y. / New York Mills H.S) got the win going 5 strong innings allowing only 3 hits and striking out  8 batters. Ryan Dungey (Vernon, N.Y. / VVS H.S.) also added 2 hits, 2 RBI, 2 walks, and a stolen base to the Wildcats offensive stat sheet. The final score of the game was 11-5 in favor of SUNYIT.

GAME 2

The Wildcats again jumped out ahead early again when Chandler Evans hit a triple and scored on a wild pitch to give SUNYIT a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Senior Joseph Szepessy (Athens, N.Y. / Coxsackie-Athens H.S.) took the hill for the Wildcats. He had a solid outing, throwing a complete game with 6 strikeouts and allowing 3 runs. The defense played solid behind Szepessy recording only a single error on tough field conditions, but the offense sputtered and left 12 runners on base and struck out 11 times. The Beavers held SUNYIT to 2 runs to get the win by a final score of 3-2.

The series split with CCNY puts the Wildcats overall record at 3-7 and brings CCNY to 3-11 on the season. The Wildcats will travel to Chester, N.Y on Sunday to square off for another 2 game set with MCLA on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for noon at the Rock Sports Park.
