Two SUNYIT Athletes Named to CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Teams

MARCY, N.Y. – Senior baseball player Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) and senior men’s lacrosse player Brett Gifford (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia) were both named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District Team for their respective sports this spring.

Sass was named to the District 3 Team (New York Region), the only NEAC player to be named to the team in 2014. Sass, a 4-year baseball player for the Wildcats, had a terrific senior season and recently graduated with a 3.90 GPA in Electrical Engineering Technology.

On Thursday of last week, long-stick midfielder Brett Gifford (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia) joined Sass in receiving the prestigious award, as he was named to the District 3 Team in the At-Large Category (there is no Capital One Academic All-District category specifically for men’s lacrosse; the At-Large category encompasses outstanding athletes in sports like Ice Hockey, Swimming, Tennis, Men’s Volleyball, and Golf).

Gifford made his second-straight All-NEAC 1st Team this past spring, finishing in the top-5 nationally in caused turnovers while maintaining a 3.89 GPA in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
