WVB: Wildcats Drop Three at Plattsburgh Classic.

SOMEWHERE, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team went 0-3 this weekend at the Plattsburgh Classic hosted by the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. The Wildcats lost Friday's match-up with NVU-Johnson narrowly, 2-3, and lost both of their matches on Saturday 0-3. The Wildcats are now 0-6 this season.  

 


 

MATCH 1:

SUNY Poly - 2

NVU-Johnson - 3

[24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 14-25, 16-18]

 

In the first of three matches this weekend at the Plattsburgh State Classic, the Wildcats lost to the NVU-Johnson Badgers 3-2. The Wildcats lost the first set narrowly but won the second and third to put the win within reach with two sets to play. The Badgers had other ideas, as they would dominate 25-14 in the fourth to tie the match at two sets a piece. In the fifth set, the two teams battled back and forth, but NVU-Johnson took the match by a slim 18-16 margin to earn their first win of the season.

 

NOTABLE STATS:

  • Ryan Fitzgerald had a team-high 12 kills on 43 swings. She also had 11 digs and a team-high six service aces.
  • Sabrina Trimblett had eight kills, a team-high 15 digs, an ace, and a solo block for the Wildcats.
  • Emma Draper had eight kills, 10 digs, and three aces for the Wildcats.
  • Michaela Bradshaw had 21 assists, 13 digs, an ace, and five kills.
  • Christina Betham led the Badgers with 22 kills on 46 swings.
  • Johnson's Max Ludlow had a match-high 10 service aces and hit .333 with 18 kills.
  • Mason Lores had 34 assists and a match-high 19 digs for the Badgers.

 


 

MATCH 2:

SUNY Poly - 0

Plattsburgh State - 3

[9-25, 19-25, 10-25]

In the second match of the Plattsburgh Classic, the Wildcats took on the host Plattsburgh State. The Wildcats lost the match 0-3 with the Cardinals dominating in the first and third sets thanks in large part to high offensive efficiency, especially in the third set where they hit .478 with 14 kills. The Wildcats put up a solid fight in the second set of the match, scoring 19 points. They led 13-12 but a 5-0 run put the Cardinals back in the driver's seat 17-13. They would go on to win the set 25-19.

 

NOTABLE STATS:

  • Ryan Fitzgerald had a team-high seven kills for the Wildcats. She also had six digs and a block assist.
  • Michaela Bradshaw led the Wildcats in both assists with 11 and digs with nine. She also had the Wildcat's only ace in the match.
  • Sabrina Trimblett had three kills and a block assist for the 'Cats.
  • Plattsburgh's Jenn Braun had a match-high 10 kills.
  • Maggie Lyon and Payton Zophy had eight and seven kills respectively for the Cardinals. Zophy also had a match-high four aces. Lyon had a match-high eight digs.

 


 

MATCH 3:

SUNY Poly - 0

Elmira - 3

[19-25, 11-25, 7-25]

 

The Wildcats lost their third and final match of the Plattsburgh Classic 0-3 to Elmira. The Wildcats played Elmira tough in the first set, falling 19-25, but struggled to get any offense going in the second and third. Elmira played very well on the attack, hitting .317 as a team.

 

NOTABLE STATS:

  • Brooke Durfee had a team-high six kills in the match. She also had three digs.
  • Emma Draper had three kills, a solo block, and a block assist.
  • Michaela Bradshaw had a team-high 13 digs for the Wildcats.
  • Sabrina Trimblett picked up a pair of service aces, a pair of kills, and three digs.
  • Amelia Martin had a match-high 13 kills for Elmira. She also had a match-high six service aces.
  • Gianna Pezzino had a match high 15 digs for Elmira.

 


 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will host the SUNY Poly Invitational next weekend. The two-day, two-court Invitational coincides with SUNY Poly's Wildcat Weekend. The Wildcats will play their first match on Friday, September 16th at 7:00 PM against the St. Joseph Blue Jays. They will also play two games on Saturday at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM at the Wildcat Field House. All of the games on court one will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN)
