WVB: Wildcats Drop Two in Season Opening Tri-Match With Utica and Bard.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team lost two matches on Saturday 0-3 to open their season, one to Utica and one to Bard. The score of the first match against Utica University was 13-25, 13-25, 19-25. The second match's score against Bard was 16-25, 24-26, 16-25. The Wildcats struggled to get going offensively, hitting negative in both sets, but there were some bright spots to build from.

 

GAME ONE:

Utica - 3

SUNY Poly - 0

NOTABLE STATS:

  • Emma Draper led the Wildcats with seven kills in the match, She hit .167 on 18 swings. Draper also had five digs, a solo block, and a block assist.
  • Sabrina Trimblett had three kills and a block assist in the match.
  • Ryan Fitzgerald had nine assists, seven digs, and a pair of kills for the Wildcats.
  • Meghan Peek had a team-high 17 digs for the Wildcats.
  • Elanor Cepiel led all players with 13 kills for Utica.
  • Madison Maggiore had 29 assists.

 

GAME TWO:

Bard - 3

SUNY Poly - 0

NOTABLE STATS:

  • Brooke Durfee had a great match for the Wildcats. The sophomore had a match-high 11 kills on 29 swings. She also had eight digs.
  • Meghan Peek led the Wildcats again with 13 digs. She also had a service ace.
  • Emma Draper had five kills, three service aces, and two block assists.
  • Ryan Fitzgerald had 15 aces, four digs, and an ace for the Wildcats.
  • Michaela Bradshaw had 10 digs and an ace.
  • Nyla Lawrence and Ryan Lum led Bard on the attack. They had eight and seven kills respectively.
  • Ryan Lum had a match-high 17 digs for Bard.
  • Adi David had 24 assists and a match-high six aces for the Raptors.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will hit the road on Wednesday, September 7th to take on Morrisville State. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start at Morrisville's John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities. The last time that these two teams met, on October 19th of last year, Morrisville won 3-1.
