Women’s Volleyball Weekend Roundup

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Volleyball Team (0-4, 0-0 NEAC) endured a tough weekend at a highly competitive tournament in Oneonta over the weekend.

The Wildcats' first match on Friday was against Union College. In the 3-0 defeat, Hanne Saarinen (Lempaala, Finland / Tempereen lyseon lukio) led all SUNYIT players with 8 kills.

In their second match, SUNYIT fell to Potsdam St., 25-14, 25-21, 25-21. Junior and team co-captain Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) led all Wildcats in kills with 9, and tied libero Jessica Sass (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston High) for the lead in digs with 13.

After dropping their first match on Saturday to St. Lawrence (BOX SCORE), the Wildcats to their credit showed spirit in their 3-1 loss to Hartwick by winning the second set 25-20.

While an 0-4 start is always painful, the Wildcats can take solace in the fact that their early season non-conference schedule is much more difficult this season than it has been in years past. The Oneonta Invitational itself is a notoriously difficult tournament, as teams from as far as Minnesota and California travel to play in it.
