UTICA, NY – SUNYIT freshman Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) has received the 2010-11 SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award, which recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, Division III, and NJCAA levels.

Harrington, along with SUNYIT junior softball player Amanda Pratt (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), was one of 74 student-athletes chosen for the award, with each scholar-athlete being selected by System Administration in consultation with the campus Athletic Directors at each level of play.  In honor of the accomplishment, each award recipient will receive a congratulatory letter and a plaque from State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher.

Harrington, a civil engineering major, was honored for her excellence both in the classroom and on the volleyball court, as she was selected to the NEAC All-Conference North Division First Team after leading the squad with 58 serve aces while being second in both kills (302) and digs (350).  The 5-foot-11 outside hitter guided the Lady Wildcats to a 21-11 overall record and an appearance in the NEAC Tournament semifinals.

"This year's 74 SUNY scholar-athletes have accomplished a great feat, excelling in our classrooms as well as our athletic programs," said Chancellor Zimpher through a press release. "With an average GPA of 3.64 and a number of championship competitions among them, the achievements of our scholar-athletes are cause for cheer. Congratulations to all of this year's winners."
