Vedder Selected as NEAC Women's Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week

UTICA, NY – SUNYIT junior Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) has been selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending September 12.  It is the first time this season and eighth time in her career that Vedder has received the award.

Vedder, the reigning NEAC Player of the Year, had a sensational weekend for the Lady Wildcats while at the Saint Lawrence/Potsdam Tournament, where SUNYIT finished 1-3.  Entering the tournament needing only seven kills to become the program's all-time career kills leader and only 16 to reach 1,000 for her career, Vedder shattered both of those marks with 69 kills in four matches, while also recording 71 digs and four aces for averages of 4.9 kills, 5.1 digs and 5.29 points per game.

Vedder collected 11 kills in an 0-3 loss (25-23, 25-16, 25-8) to Saint Lawrence to help her surpass the mark of 990 career kills set by fellow teammate Hillary Pundt ('09) on Friday, and finished the night with 18 kills in a 1-3 loss (25-13, 25-13, 20-25, 25-14) to RIT to give her over 1,00 kills for her career.  The 6-foot outside hitter rounded out the weekend with 22 kills, 16 digs and two serve aces in a 3-0 victory (25-17, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19) over Oswego and 18 kills and 16 digs in a 1-3 loss (23-25, 25-17, 25-15 25-19) to Plattsburgh Saturday.

Vedder currently leads the team in kills and digs and has registered five double-doubles on the year, including four this past weekend.

The Wildcats are currently 3-3 overall.  They will next be in action tonight when they host Hamilton College at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
