Vedder Sets All-Time Career Kills Mark during Potsdam/St. Lawrence Tournament

CANTON, NY – Needing only seven kills to become the program's all-time career kills leader and only 16 to reach 1,000 for her career, SUNYIT junior Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) shattered both of those marks with 69 kills in four matches at the Potsdam/St. Lawrence Tournament this past weekend, where the Lady Wildcats finished 1-3.

Vedder, the reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year, had a sensational weekend, recording a double-double in all four matches and finishing with 69 kills, 71 digs and four aces for averages of 4.9 kills, 5.1 digs and 5.29 points per game.  Her dominance helped her secure her eighth NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week award, which was announced today.

Vedder had 11 kills a 0-3 (25-23, 25-16, 25-8) loss to host St. Lawrence on Friday to help her pass the mark of 990 career kills set by Hillary Pundt ('09) and leaving her five short of 1,000 for her career.  She would get that and much more against RIT later that night, registering 18 kills to go along with 29 digs in the 1-3 (25-13, 25-13, 20-25, 25-14) loss.

She would then lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 (25-17, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19) win over Oswego Saturday with 22 kills, 16 digs and two serve aces.  Freshman Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) added 16 kills and 20 digs, while senior Courtney Ruether (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) registered 12 digs.  Senior Nicole Higgins (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) finished with 28 assists and four serve aces.

Vedder rounded out the weekend with 18 kills and 16 digs in a 1-3 (23-25, 25-17, 25-15 25-19) loss to Plattsburgh Saturday.  Harrington had 19 digs and six kills, Higgins tallied 25 assists and 15 digs, and Ruether and freshman Holly Loveless (Brewerton, NY/Paul V. Moore) both finished with 14 digs apiece.

The Wildcats are now 3-3 overall.  They will be back in action tomorrow when they host Hamilton College in the Campus Center Gymnasium at 7:00 pm.
