Women's Volleyball Goes 1-3 at Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA, NY – The SUNYIT women's volleyball team finished 1-3 in four matches at the Oneonta State Invitational this past weekend to place at with an overall record of 8-7 on the year.

The Wildcats opened the Invitational with a 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 21-25) loss to host Oneonta State on Friday.  Junior Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) finished with a team-high 15 kills, while freshman Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) had a team-best 13 digs to go along with nine kills and one serve ace.  Senior Nicole Higgins (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) tallied 26 assists.

SUNYIT ended day one of the tournament with a 3-0 (18-25, 13-25, 21-25) loss to Keene State.  Vedder and Harrington each had 11 kills, while Higgins registered 16 assists.  Freshman Taviot Jackowski (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) smashed three serve aces.

 

The Wildcats rebounded on Saturday with a thrilling 3-2 (22-25, 27-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-9) victory over Hartwick College.  Vedder recorded 20 kills and 24 digs, while Harrington had 14 kills, 13 digs and two serve aces.  Higgins finished with 31 assists, nine kills and three serve aces and Jackowski finished with 15 digs.

 

The Wildcats closed out the tournament with a 3-0 (13-25, 15-25, 17-25) loss to Rochester Institute of Technology.  Vedder totaled nine kills and 13 digs, Harrington had eight kills and nine digs, Higgins tallied 19 assists and Jackowski had 16 digs.

 

The Wildcats will be back in action this Wednesday when they host local rival Utica College in the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The match will mark the team's senior day, where Higgins and Courtney Ruether (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) will be honored before the contest.  Additionally, the match will be part of the "DiG PiNk" campaign.  For full details on the event, click here.
