Women's Volleyball Goes 3-1 during NEAC Pool Play

MORRISVILLE, NY – Just as they did in their first round of NEAC Pool Play three weekends ago, the Lady Wildcat women's volleyball team finished 3-1 in conference play held at Morrisville State College this past Saturday and Sunday.  The Wildcats are now 6-2 in the NEAC and 17-8 overall.

 

The Wildcats opened the competition with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-16) victory over Cobleskill Saturday.  Freshman Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) had match highs of 15 kills and two total blocks to go along with 14 digs, while junior Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had 14 kills and a match-high 17 digs.  Freshman Taviot Jackowski (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) recorded a match-best two serve aces and also had 12 digs, while senior Nicole Higgins (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) finished with 30 assists and six digs.

 

SUNYIT would then fall to Keuka for the second time in as many matches, this time a 3-0 (24-26, 14-25, 22-25) loss to close Friday's action.  Vedder finished with a match-high 17 kills in addition to 11 digs and two serve aces, while Harrington recorded 11 kills, a match-best 17 digs and two serve aces.  Higgins tallied 25 assists while junior Kourtni Pratt (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) smashed a match-best four serve aces.

 

The Wildcats were able to rebound with two victories on Saturday, with the first being a 3-1 (25-13, 25-9, 23-25, 25-17) win over Cazenovia.  Vedder continued her dominance with a match-high 21 kills, 18 digs and two serve aces, while Harrington registered a match-best 21 digs, 10 kills, a team-high three serve aces and two solo blocks.  Pratt dished out a team-high 21 assists and also had nine digs, Jackowski recorded 14 digs and 12 assists and freshman Holly Loveless (Brewerton, NY/Paul V. Moore) had a match-high four solo blocks in addition to 14 digs and four kills.

 

SUNYIT then wrapped up pool play with a 3-0 (25-16 25-13 25-16) win over Morrisville.  Vedder recorded her fourth double-double of the weekend with a match-high 19 kills and 14 digs in addition to a match-high four serve aces.  Loveless smashed 10 kills, Harrington finished with 14 digs and eight kills and Higgins registered match highs of 33 assists and two solo blocks.

 

The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday, October 19 when they travel to take on Oswego at 7:00 pm.
