WSOC: Wildcats Beat Mustangs 2-1 in NAC Play.

UTICA, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly women's soccer team beat SUNY Morrisville on Wednesday evening 2-1. Kate Donnelly and Aubree Smykla would score the goals for the Wildcats. With the win, the Wildcats move to 6-7-1 on the season and 6-2 in North Atlantic Conference play. The Mustangs move to 4-7-2 on the season and 3-2-2 in North Atlantic Conference play.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: Kate Donnelly wasted no time in getting the scoring going in the Wednesday night conference contest, scoring in the 3rd minute on an assist from Caroline Entwistle. It would be Donnelly's fourth goal of the season. The Wildcats would continue to control the pace for the first half, with a total of seven shots on goal and holding the Mustangs to zero shots. Melanie Rott would keep the Mustangs in the game the entire night, finishing with eight saves.

In the second half, the Wildcats would strike first again, this time on a goal from Aubree Smykla in the 47th minute. Hannah Shipley would have the assist on the goal. The Mustangs would continue to play hard, however, and would get on the board in the 76th minute on a goal from Jozlyn Dolan. After closing the gap, the Mustangs would have another chance late in the game on a turnover from the Wildcats in front of their own net, but a Mustangs attacker would hit the post and it would remain a 2-1 game. The Wildcats would hold off attacks for the remainder of the game and would hold on for the 2-1 victory. With the win, the Wildcats have now won two in a row and sit in second place in the NAC West Division.
